Deafblind Scotland HQ & training facility, Kirkintilloch

This Feasibility Study commenced with a site analysis to determine the capacity of the site. A 900m2 footprint was established on a narrow sloping site. A sloping site for the sensory impaired requires thoughtful solutions. 3 alternatives were developed to explore the building shape and form: a level building dug into the slope; a stepped 2 storey building and a multi-split level building. 3 tactile models were built to enable the client group to ‘touch & feel’ the 3 alternative solutions. Strong contrasting colours and tactile textures were used to enhance the sensory experience.
